Mindful New Year 2026: Be Kind to Yourself and Your Energy

As the New Year approaches, many of us start thinking about the changes we want to make and the kind of year we hope to create. But instead of chasing endless resolutions, what if your New Year’s resolution was simply one of kindness toward yourself?

For me, 2025 was a year of highs and lows. Living with chronic illness and managing fatigue and pain meant that some days I had very little energy. The year was filled with endless doctors appointments, one week I had 6 appointments. But it was also a year of joy. Spending time with my family, spending time in Barcelona practicing Spanish and discovering the beautiful city, time at our country house in the south of Sweden, a place that gives me energy. Doing Yoga teacher training in Lymph Yin and Lymph Yoga Slow Flow. And an enormous amount of hard work to get my business officially off the ground, learning so many new things starting a digital business. None of this would have been possible without prioritizing rest and self-care between activities.

Balance Is a Practice, Not a Destination

When a friend asked me if I’d found “balance” in life, I realized how tricky that concept is. Balance isn’t a permanent state — it’s something we work at, something that shifts with our energy levels, health, and circumstances.

For those of us living with chronic illness or recovering from burnout, maintaining balance often means doing all the things we know are good for us — and sometimes, giving ourselves permission to do very little. It’s okay to take a break from yourself, from routines, and from obligations, because to be honest it can become exhausting at times, not just living this life that is constantly dictated by your body, but also having to constantly manage it by being “good” and maintaining all those good habits you have implemented.

So give yourself a break. Do what feels good to you now. After resting and recharging, it’s easier to return to the strategies that support a healthier, happier life.

Set Kind, Realistic Goals for 2026

My personal goals for 2026 focus on:

  • Improving health and energy

  • Moving my body in ways that feel good

  • Being gentle with myself on low-energy days

  • Eating nourishing foods

  • Avoiding energy-draining tasks and jobs

  • Taking regular breaks to recharge

When phrasing goals, consider why you want to achieve them and how it will feel when you do. Goals rooted in self-compassion and meaningful outcomes are easier to sustain.

Does Making Changes Feel Daunting?

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when thinking about New Year transformations, especially if your energy is limited or you’re living with chronic illness.

The key is small steps. Trying to do everything at once often leads to burnout or frustration. But tiny, consistent changes — like spending five minutes meditating, choosing one nourishing meal, or taking a short walk — can quickly build momentum and improve stress management, pain coping, and overall well-being.

If you need help coming up with good habits to implement in 2026, then Energy Enabler is for you.

Aim for a Year of Mindful Living in 2026

Mindfulness can mean different things to different people, but here are some ways you can incorporate it in daily life:

  • Meditation / Mindfulness Practices – even a few minutes of breath awareness

  • Self-Care Rituals – gentle movement, relaxing baths, or journaling

  • Self-Compassion – speak kindly to yourself and honor your limitations

  • Follow Your Passions – do things that bring you joy and energy

  • Be Active – move in ways that feel good for your body

  • Prioritize Sleep – rest is crucial for mental and physical health

Start Today: Mindfulness in Small Steps

You don’t need to wait for January 1st to begin. Start now, even in tiny ways:

  1. Simple Breathing – Notice each inhale and exhale

  2. Observe Thoughts – Watch your thoughts without judgment

  3. Build Consistency – Practice a little each day for lasting impact

Even small acts of presence and self-kindness can make a massive difference over time.

Your 2026 Can Be Gentle and Empowering

This New Year, let your resolution be to take care of yourself, to protect your energy, and to honor your body and mind. When you do, you create a foundation for more joy, connection, and fulfillment — without the guilt or pressure of perfection.

Here’s to a year of mindful living, self-compassion, and gentle growth — one small step at a time.
